This breed is a descendant of goats brought by early Spanish explorers and Catholic missionaries. The short or almost non-existing ears are the distinctive characteristic of this breed. The LaMancha goat has a great temperament among dairy breeds; it is a very all-around sturdy animal that can withstand hardships, yet still produce milk. Although selected for milk production, this goat has a lower milk production than the Swiss breeds and has higher fat content.
