Everyone who knows Dr. Sandra Solaiman feels her passion, sees her dedication, understands her yearning and smiles at all her stories for and about goats. And, they know why she is one of the world’s leading experts on goats and the goat industry.

Dr. Solaiman’s teaching career in agriculture spans more than 22 years in Animal Nutrition and Dairy Science courses and her research contributions expand globally in the areas of goat nutrition, kinetics of digestion and passage, trace mineral copper, alternative feeds and forage/pasture utilization.

Her major contribution to goat nutrition is her extensive study and research on copper requirements for goats. In fact, her current research focuses on copper- molybdenum interaction in goats. Her other research focus is on sustainable goat production systems using year-round foraging and comparing different goat production systems in the Southeast. She also has a special interest in sustainable agriculture and the fate of small and mid-size family farms in the U.S. and abroad plus environmental and sustainability aspects of ruminant nutrition.

Dr. Solaiman currently teaches Animal and Poultry science as a Professor at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama where she serves as Director of Small Ruminant Research. She is also an Affiliated Associate Professor in Animal Science at Auburn University in neighboring Auburn, Alabama.

Dr. Solaiman received a B.S. from the University of Urmia, Iran in 1974, a M.S. from Oklahoma State University in 1978 and a PhD from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1984. Dr. Solaiman is a class 10 graduate (2001) of the USDA-ACOP/ESCOP Leadership Development Program and a member of the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists (PAS).
